We have a proud history spanning over 110 years and a tradition of top quality, free flowing rugby. We welcome all Cardiff University students wishing to play. Traditionally this includes Medical, Dental, Physiotherapy and Nursing students, but all are welcome.

Currently we have two teams, competing regularly on Wednesday afternoons in the British Universities & Colleges Sports leagues. The first XV compete in Division 2 West and our second XV are playing in Division 3 West.

Medical school rugby is very important to us. As well as regular fixtures against United (London) Hospitals RFC, Toulouse Medics and Dublin Medical Schools, we compete in the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) competition and are looking to continue our domination, already having an impressive 20 wins since the tournament began, 28 years ago. The second XV NAMS competition started in 2019 and since then, we have won 2 of the possible 3 titles. We are the only club to have secured the NAMS triple also, holding the first XV, second XV, and sevens titles simultaneously.

Our WRU status allows us to compete in the Welsh Cup, giving us the opportunity to try our hand at a different brand of rugby, and export our own, something very valuable to us.

Though rugby is our cause, it is the social aspect of our club that defines us. Life friendships are made between members, and the Club does all it can to ensure that all are looked after in every aspect of their student lives. Every Wednesday our post-match socials start at the infamous Cathays Sports & Social Club, along with the other medical sports teams. Our calendar also has special dates, including the time-honoured medical school tradition of Toga night, our annual Christmas Dinner, Tour, and Old Boys Dinner.

There is a very strong old boy network here at Cardiff Meds. Past players, including the likes of Gwyn Jones and record breaking adventurer, Richard Parks, can be seen at the touchline supporting the boys. However, the true spirit of the club is never more apparent than at our annual end of season dinner, when past and present players come together to celebrate Cardiff Medicals RFC.
