Cardiff Medics win NAMS 2024

Cardiff Medics win NAMS 2024

Monty Heath2 May - 17:59

Rugby's Biggest day of Rugby outshone by Cardiff Medics on Super Saturday!

The 16th March, the day every young medic ever dreams of came about. Location: Grasshoppers RFC, London; the show: the greatest of all because Cardiff Meds 2XV were there.
That's right, yet again the 2s made the journey to London to go and retain their trophy...again. It was an early start to the day for the boys, 6:45am. The Meds loaded on the coach with freshers, seniors and old boys. Despite the long journey the lads got straight into it warming up well as the morning sun and morning beer warmed the fans. Vital ingredients of course for the noise that was required of them.

Kick off, and as we have done all season the hard lines and battering rams of the 2s started their engines. Big carries all around the field from Yandle, Gurling, Cai and just about everyone who wanted to smash up the Bristol defence. Gurling started the scoring finally receiving a non-forward pass and dotted down in the corner. No extras added by Squire but we go on. Rory wanted a bit of the action as well so after a bit of time on the Bristol 5m line he decided to run it over. Energy was still high at this point but a couple silly penalties allowed Bristol back with their only try of the game. Fortunate events meant the Bristol winger gave Monty the ball to score in the corner meaning all our 15 points came from the back 3. Cardiff well up 15-5 at the half.

Into the second half with the fans having been fueled by a fresh round of beers for the second half of the show. HPJ joined the field and made an instant impact racking up 10 points on his own, showing his real class. Then it was Squires turn to get his first points of the game with a try, something about playing in the back 3 i think.

The highlight of the game however, was the main man, our Rhys Mynott getting the final try in the final play of the final (even if all he did was dot it down)...oops not another winger. He even decided to slot the conversion with a distinct lack of effort. What a guy and what a true med sending out his Medics career in style.

El Celebrations began as the 2s were crowned NAMS champions for the second year in a row. We headed back to Cardiff to watch more of our favourtie sport and of course have LOTS of fun on the bus back with our President getting involved. It seems as if Wales need some of our 2s players to help them beat Italy.

What a fantastic club day and what a journey it has been for the 2s this season and of course our 1s who were there supporting. Celebrations worth continuing over the whole weekend. See yous next year NAMS, for now though the trophy remains in our safe hands where it loves to hang, who can blame it!
